This once-dated 1988 contemporary home in Commerce Township, Michigan, was completely transformed through a custom exterior renovation into a warm, Craftsman-style home with timeless character. MJ Whelan Construction reimagined the façade with a dramatic new front gable, covered front porch, rough-sawn timber beams, cultured ledgestone, natural cedar shakes, and rich wood ceilings, creating a welcoming entrance and lasting curb appeal.
The renovation also solved a functional challenge by relocating and emphasizing the front door, creating a more intuitive arrival for guests while making the former side entry feel more private. Deep roof overhangs, custom trim details, and carefully selected exterior materials work together to give the home the authentic character of a classic Craftsman design.
While much of the original structure remained, thoughtful architectural details and high-quality craftsmanship completely transformed the home’s appearance. This Craftsman exterior renovation and front porch addition showcases how intentional design can dramatically enhance both the beauty and functionality of an existing home, creating a timeless exterior the homeowners will enjoy for years to come.
